Hypertension- An alarming rise in Blood pressure is ranked as third most important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases like peripheral vascular disease, myocardial infarction, stroke etc, chronic renal disease and is responsible for premature deaths as per WHO.
According to Directorate General of health services over all prevalence of hypertension in India by 2020 will be 159.46/1000 population. About 25% rural & 33% urban Indians are hypertensive, only one tenth of rural & one fifth of urban Indian hypertensive population have B.P control.
Hence, prompt treatment with anti-hypertensive drugs is essential for effective uniform B.P control and to avoid life threatening complications.
